Kind Milena Lardì, which were the reasons that brought you to develop the tricopigmentation technique?

Milena Lardi answers:

I started dealing with Micropigmentation in 1993. At the time, the technique was very basic compared to now. In fact, it was kind of a tattoo slightly applied on the face with the unlikely aim of improving it.

It was the fashion of the moment, the classic tattoo had broken the psychological schemes, it was not anymore something selective for an uncommon social rank.

Very soon the worlds “tattooed makeup” and “paramedic tattoo” got substituted by less improper terms. Most of all, the pratical, hygienic and health needs brought to the development of specific machineries, instrumentations and protocols for each activity.

In 2007, in the face of the 10 years experience in the field, Tricopigmentation was born. I reached this technique in a natural and spontaneous way following the requests of the market.

Which is the history of the technique?

Milena Lardi answers:

In 2007, Dr. Piero Tesauro, a hair restoration surgery expert and until that moment a stranger to me, sent me a client: he needed to thicken, though tricopigmentation, a thinned area of the scalp that could not be treated with the surgery.

In a short while, other patients come to me with the same problem and always sent by the same doctor.

I felt I had to call this doctor to thank him for trusting me and, surprisingly, I found an incredible person, not only as a professional, but also as a human being. The chance wanted that in that period the doctor was the president of a hair restoration surgery association and so he introduced other doctors to my work.

I got invited as a lecturer for the first time to a medical congress and the interest and enthusiasm for tricopigmentation was strong and unexpected. The number of cases to treat increased, just like the variety of them. A specific protocol able to give the wished results started to be required. In 2010 I presented the first exclusive equipment to perform the treatment on the scalp: needles, pigments and a protocol that followed a deep study in the field. In 2013 my technique obtained a scientific recognition.

Which is the strenght of the technique?

Milena Lardi answers:

For sure, the reversability of the treatment. The use of specific products and materials, specifically designed and approved for this purpose, determines its undisputed excellence.

In which way can tricopigmentation work in sinergy with the transplant?

Milena Lardi answers:

Tricopigmentation represents a valid ally, a valid complement, for the transplant, since it can enhance its results, or it can be a good alternative to it when the doctor states that the transplant cannot be performed.

Why do you think that permanent scalp pigmentation is not a good idea? Which are the main differences between the two techniques?

Milena Lardi answers:

There are many reasons. First of all I think that everybody should be free to choose to keep a treatment or to search other solutions without the need to undergo a laser or any other pigment removal solution. Permanent means the same forever. However, are we the same forever? The morphological structure changes, the hairline when you are 20 is not the same one when you are 50, hair becomes white etc.

There are many differences between the permanent and the temporary technique. In my opinion, the main one is that for the permanent one specific and appropriate machineries and pigments do not exist. Instrumentation for permanent makeup or for tattoo and pigments for the artistic tattoo are adapted for the purpose.

How does a tricopigmentation treatment take place? How many sessions are required?

Milena Lardi answers:

It is necessary a prior consultation in which discuss with the client his expectations and the real possibilities of the tricopigmentation. The treatment is performed in 2 sessions (in 2 following days) plus a strenghtening check one month after.

Last question to Milena Lardi: how many touch up sessions are required every year to keep the best result possible?

Milena Lardi answers:

One or two per year. The strategy is often customized in order to maximise the coverage level while balancing it with the naturalness of the result. For further information check the Beauty Medical website.
